The Edie Scholarship
Edie Opportunity
Each Discovery Involves Eleven Project
Project Edie O. is based on the educational premise that each invention or discovery is the result of acknowledging eleven core ethical principles of effective character education. Because each advancement towards a possibility is subconsciously fueled by the desire for social change, it is our belief that students of this mindset and caliber should not be financially limited in pursuing their dreams. In recognition of these beliefs, students who have been accepted into the Intellectual Practice and Project RED Programs of the Jeune Hope Chicago Initiative, will be given an opportunity to apply for the scholarship.

Emphasis will be placed on helping students develop a love of literature, poetry, and language, while also enhancing student leadership skills, self-confidence and peer relations through the completion of student-centered writing projects. Students will be encouraged to write about science, philosophy, religion, history, playwrights and contemporary thought with a goal in mind of creating a publishable novel or children's book. Students will also be encouraged to write biographies and autobiographies, letters, and other meaningful sketches that allow them to discover who they are, help them deal with life's challenges, discover where they belong in the world and what they are capable of achieving. Journal writing, public performances, the publishing of work in printed anthologies, and in the online environment will help students develop strong literacy and communication skills by placing emphasis on the use of proper grammar and punctuation. Novice experience is not required. As long as the student has a passion for language and loves words, we will be happy to work with them. Our coaches will meet with you at any one of the 70+ Chicago Public Libraries.
